Since the first large-scale production of polystyrene in 1930 and of polyamide in 1940, BASF has set the pace in all key stages of plastics development. Today, BASF manufactures Polystyrene, ABS, and ASA in plants in North America; and will begin manufacturing Styrolux® SBC (Styrene-Butadiene copolymer) in Altamira, Mexico in late 2003. Additionally, BASF imports specialty products including Styroflex™ SBS and multiple specialty co-polymers.
